ISLAMABAD: The electoral reforms committee has started to review the laws of other countries to make Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) financially more autonomous.
Law Federal Minister Zahid Hamid has informed the media that more than six hundred objections were received from various departments and political parties’ regarding the proposed draft of electoral reforms. “After receiving the objections committee has reviewed these objections and a consultation was completed on 57 objections,” he added.
“The objections which were decided so far are included enhancement in the powers of ECP and other matters”, Zahid stated. He asserted that ECP would be made complete autonomous in preparing budget and creating new job opportunities.
The Federal Minister testified that new method is being introduced to make election transparent. Under this method, all the presiding officers would be bound to send election results to ECP electronically along with all Returning Officers. Similarly, Presiding Officers would inform the Returning Officers about those polling stations which results are not received till 2 pm of next day and ECP.
“It was decided that objections raised over the electoral reforms would be decided immediately while meeting of subcommittee would be held two times in a week”, Zahid concluded.
