ISLAMABAD: The electoral
reforms committee has started to review the laws of other countries to make El
ection Commission of Pakistan (ECP) financially more autonomous.
Law Federal
Minister Zahid Hamid has informed the media that more than six hundred obj
ections were received from various departments an
d political parties’ regarding the proposed draft of electoral
reforms. “After receiving the obj
ections committee has reviewed these obj
ections and a consultation was completed on 57 obj
ections,” he added.
“The obj
ections which were decided so far are included enhancement in the powers of ECP and other
matters”, Zahid stated. He asserted that ECP would be made complete autonomous in preparing budget and creating new job opportunities.
The Federal
Minister testified that new method is being introduced to make el
ection transparent. Under this method, all the presiding officers would be bound to send el
ection results to ECP electronically along with all Returning Officers. Similarly, Presiding Officers would inform the Returning Officers about those polling stations which results are not received till 2 pm of next day and ECP.
“It was decided that obj
ections raised over the electoral
reforms would be decided immediately while meeting of subcommittee would be held two times in a week”, Zahid concluded.
