KARACHI: A Frontier Works Organization (FWO) delegation briefed the Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, about the progress work on the mega project K-1V Bulk Water Supply and Karachi-Thatta Dual Carriageway’s (KTDCW) timely completion.
The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister, Jam Khan Shoro and other officials of the Sindh government, the FWO and the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KW&SB).
The Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, lauded the role of the organisation and its landmark achievements on the national level and urged the authorities of the FWO and other concerned to give priority to development in the province so as to expedite more work on the K-IV bulk water project for the people of and other Sindh level projects.
The FWO Director General, Lieutenant General M. Afzal, told the CM Sindh that the smooth work on different mega projects including M-9, KTDCW K-1V and Lyari Expressway was continuing and hoped for timely completion of the development projects.
This project (K-1V) will provide about 650 million gallons per day (MGD) water to Karachi to meet the water requirements in three phases: the requirement of Karachi is 1,100MGD, and the current supply is less than 550MGD from the executed projects of K-I, K-II and K-III, while the supply from Hub Dam is around 100MGD.
The FWO Chief said that the work on the first phase of the K-IV project from Keenjhar Lake to Karachi was in progress according to the 260MGD water supply in the first phase and 260MGD in the second phase to the people of Karachi.
The project length is around 121 kilometres including a canal of 94.33 kilometres with RCC siphon, canal lining and miscellaneous work. The DG-FWO also informed the Chief Minister Sindh that the FWO had achieved its landmark in the national projects within the stipulated time and the work on the Karachi-Thatta dual carriageway would be completed in the second phase of this year.
He hoped the completion of the remaining portions of the KTDCW would expedite their work to deploy more units and the manpower for early completion.
